If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that Lilly received a "paint with water" Lisa Frank coloring book for her birthday. I had waaaaaaaaaaaay too much fun painting one of her pages (much to her chagrin) and then thought- I bet I could make my own drawing for Lilly to paint. So I did.
You can too:
1. Get some thick paper (I used printer paper and while it worked- it also wrinkled).
2. Draw whatever you want using a sharpie and let it dry. I found that big shapes with plenty of space between the lines makes it easier to fill in later.
3. Fill in with water color pencils. In my experience I found it's better to do shapes that are closer together rather then bigger. I used lots of different shapes and lines so it would be more fun to look at too.
4. Give it to a kid with some water and a paint brush. Lilly and I discovered that using a smaller paint brush is better and that dabbing the brush on a paper towel so it isn't soaked helps too. Too much water on the page caused it to rip.
And that's it! Now you can hang your one of a kind kiddo made art! If you DIY leave a link in the comments so I can check it out!

LOVE IT, it turned out so cute.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking all over for paint with water books and aside from ordering on Amazon they are no where to be found! This is a great idea that I'm going to try with the boys--thanks for being so smart;)
ReplyDeleteYou are brilliant!
